Types of lighting
According to the intended use and light distribution, lighting is classified of indirect lighting, accent lighting, task lighting, and general lighting.
Indirect lighting is often used to reflect the light back from the ceiling. It is commonly used for lighting applications that require minimal glare and a uniform level of illumination. It can produce diffuse and seamless light effects, so it can add a luxury and aesthetic sense.
Accent lighting is primarily decorative and designed to highlight pictures, plants or other elements of interior design or landscaping.
Task lighting is primarily functional, and often most focused, for the purpose of reading or examining materials. For example, reading low quality replicas may require task lighting levels of up to 1500 lux.
General lighting (sometimes referred to as ambient light) fills the space between them for general area lighting.
