Why are CRI 90, R9, and R13 important in LED lighting?
High CRI is important because it reveals the accuracy of objects. CRI color rendering index is a rating of the effect of a light source on the color appearance of objects. The highest CRI value or Ra value is 100. It means that the light source is identical to standardized daylight. Nowadays, most LED lights are above CRI 80, while some good performance LED lights achieves higher than CRI 90 which are called “high CRI”. DINAM offers both CRI 80 and CRI 90 LED lights.
In the measurement of CRI, it is measured from R1 to R8, white R9 to R15 are not counted. However, R9 and R13 do matter whereas red and pink should be displayed vividly. R9 reveals a vibrant red color, and R13 displays the skin tone or say pink color.
Test colors used in calculating CRI:
Not only CRI value but also R9 or R13 should be considered in places where requires perfect lighting. For example, in a high-class restaurant, food dishes like meat, fish, and vegetables carry high amounts of red and pink. High R9 and R13 values bring out good quality color of objects, and help to maintain good customer satisfaction.
In retail clothing on display store, you should keep in mind that skin tones and some clothing items contain strong red and pink tones. So the light you choose for dressing room, display rooms, and accent lighting should have a high CRI quality to show the true colors of clothing against the skin of customer.
When displaying artwork in art galleries, high quality CRI can reveal the vividness of the art, and helps the guests view the art pieces in their truest colors.
